Hey y'all!
I made this playlist when I was 21. It was like a rite of passage for me to fully enjoy the songs I was too young to be listening to in the early '00s. I'll make an all '90s version of this later (I threw a few in), but for now- enjoy the old, slow grooves. Thanks for listening! See you in two weeks. Tune in or Weep, Alexis Jade

It happens to a lot of men and women. Men may bald at the crown of their heads. Women may lose their edges. Hair may fall out in clumps. There's a trendy Instagram product for everything now. Even products that cater to women who want to combat hair loss.
I chose to stay away from the Baller Alert and Shade Room pages that posted women getting lace wigs and 'miracle supplements' to help with their traction alopecia from poor weave installations. I tried to avoid the comments that shamed and teased women for a common condition. Why? That could be me in that chair. It was me in that chair. Alopecia isn't talked about enough, so people assume that when you lose your hair it's due to poor maintenance. That isn't the case with me. I started losing my hair at the top when I was 17. I have alopecia areata, a condition where hair loss occurs in spots on the scalp, and may or may not be permanent. My hairstylist did everything she could to save it until I was 19 and became old enough to pay for my own services. I was lucky enough to have a bestfriend who could style hair- so I would pay her to come to my house and take care of it. I tried to do something brave for my 20th birthday and visit a new salon. This woman allegedly had growing hands and made her clients comfortable. WRONG! As soon as I sat down in the chair, she combed through my hair with disgust and said, "What happened?!" I immediately felt low. I explained the best way I could, sat in the chair for my sew-in, paid for my services, and never returned. Have I been to a salon since? Yes. No one has been able to help me. I'm even too afraid to visit a dermatologist because I'm just not ready to hear the bad news that I will never have a full head of hair again. Here is what I do in the meantime: 1. Wash and condition my hair weekly. 2. Keep my hair thoroughly detangled and moisturized. 3. Keep it cut low, no longer than an inch. 4. Wear beautiful wigs that make me feel confident. If this is your story, I encourage you to email me with tips or just to vent if you need to! Thanks for reading. See you in two weeks! Read or Weep, Alexis Jade |
