Marching band played a huge part in my upbringing. If I wasn't at a Battle of the Bands show, I was at a HBCU game listening to Bethune-Cookman or Southern. I learned how to play the flute in high school just so I could join the band.
Eight years later, I still have a love for the flute and the perfect 90 degree angled knee. There are a lot of songs that are marching band classics, but the instrumentation in these songs are so immaculate that I will never stop listening to them. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Lately, I've disconnected myself because people have a hard time understanding boundaries. I don't blame them though. Everyone has the friend they gravitate to when they need advice, have a story to tell, etc. It's just exhausting pouring in everyone's cup without filling your own first. I had to learn to do that.
I'm the friend who finds time for my friends when I'm in a relationship. I'm the friend who can help with homework. I'm the friend who always has a pep talk prepared when you need it. I'm the friend who's down to go out at the last minute. I'm the life of the party. I'm a scholar. I'm a full-time professional. I'm a side-hustler. I'm a creator. I'm a healer. If you're one of those people who can do it all, know when to rest. Know when to turn your phone on 'Do Not Disturb.' Go get your nails done. Go see a movie alone. Go to Target just to walk up and down the aisles. Embrace the comfort of silence and solitude. Me? I have enough for everybody. And it gets bitter when I don't embrace the sweet. Thanks for reading!
